How do I describe this extraordinary place?
This estancia is a place we hold close to our hearts. Ever since I was 8 years old, I explored its paths, forests, river circuits, rocks, and natural water slides. We have had meals by the river, campfires by the lake at night, and slept under the stars at the very top of the mountain. We swam and kayaked across the incredible Lake Traful, sometimes jumping off rocks that were a bit too high (not included in this itinerary, although I know many would want to!).
To share exactly as we experience it, we want to offer a very specific plan: a stay at this estancia sharing moments directly with the family that owns and manages the place, discovering a piece of Argentine history that lives on in this corner of Patagonia.
Back in 1987, this estancia was one of the first three to open its doors to guests, welcoming travelers from all across the globe. Spending a few days here is not just "staying" at another estancia; it is touching, sharing, and living a piece of our national heritage that dates back to 1904. We’ll tell you the full story around an asado with a glass of good wine!
The itinerary includes horseback riding along diverse trails and paths within the estate itself: a completely private expanse of 4,000 hectares tucked inside Nahuel Huapi National Park (with the Lanín Volcano sitting just on the other side). Beyond the saddle, the experience invites bird watching, visiting natural condor nesting sites (condoreras), scenic treks, savoring incredible local gastronomy, and taking in breathtaking views.
Those of us from Argentina who have traveled south all our lives know the striking, iconic presence of Lake Traful. No one who visits can ever forget its colors or its deep sense of stillness. All the lakes in the region are special, but only a few are truly unique. Phosphorescent and mesmerizing.
The Traful River is world-renowned as one of the ultimate fly-fishing waters on earth.
