Catamarca
Echoes of Adobe and the Hidden Loom Route
Trip Concept: An itinerary designed for the traveler seeking to disconnect and dive into raw, authentic Argentina. Far from saturated routes, this journey combines the scenic awe of valleys and dunes with the wild comfort of boutique inns.
Catamarca is a serendipitous discovery; unintentionally, without knowing what you are looking for, you find it, and when you do, the region unfolds and offers much more than one can imagine. Sometimes it's just that—going to feel and breathe, with zero expectations, with the idea of simply being—that is the secret to enjoying these landscapes and allowing them to take you by surprise and move through you. One must know how to let oneself be moved.
A raw and authentic Argentina, with its colors, valleys, dunes, and endlessly unfolding routes that merge with the horizon, feeling like another planet. The Adobe Route, The Loom Route, iconic locations such as Campo de Piedra Pómez, Carachi Pampa Volcano, El Peñón, and the Antofalla Salt Flat, among others, allow you to connect with a novel landscape of the country, unusual even for Argentines themselves. These towns and localities are characterized by their labels of "remote," "authentic," "artisanal," and "pure." On these routes and in these towns, the footprint of culture is felt in a fresh and constant way. A strong identity, with much to explore and delve into.
Ideal for those who understand the patience of enjoyment. And with it, the absolute certainty that the north always gifts us: clear skies, intense blue contrasting with earth tones.
Itinerary Highlights
-
Day 1: Red Earth and the Adobe Route
The Welcome: The expedition begins by embracing local culture from the first moment. We will enjoy a traditional lunch (authentic Catamarca goat) at a rustic spot along the route, immediately blending with the region's flavors.
The Experience: Aboard 4x4 vehicles, we traverse the Adobe Route at our own pace. It is not a closed circuit, but an exploration curated by scenic stops to admire ancient chapels and colonial structures emerging from the ochre landscape.
Rest: Arrival in Fiambalá and check-in at Posada Las Cañas, a boutique hotel where rustic comfort meets detail. A curated dinner featuring local homemade flavors.
-
Day 2: Immensity in the Dunes and Hot Springs Under the Stars
The Adventure: After a countryside breakfast, we venture into the imposing Tatón Dunes. Accompanied by an expert local guide (our insider in the area), we will explore hidden corners of the landscape and experience the adrenaline of sandboarding in the vastness of the desert.
Rustic Lunch: A pause along the way to enjoy lunch in a natural setting (wild comfort), appreciating the rawness and beauty of the unfiltered landscape.
The Hidden Saddles Touch: As night falls, we enter the Fiambalá Natural Hot Springs. We organize the visit strategically to avoid crowds, allowing our travelers to soak in tiered pools of up to 45 degrees under an absolutely starry sky.
-
Day 3: Londres and the Secret of the Loom (Cultural Immersion)
The Hidden Cradle: We leave Fiambalá and head towards Londres, the true and silent origin of Catamarca weaving. We deliberately avoid "mainstream" centers to delve into the living roots of the loom.
Day in the Life: Here is where true magic happens. We walk through the town and enter the backyards of colonial houses, where artisans spin and dye wool right before our eyes.
We will share time with locals—like our friend Jorge—listening to stories of the countryside, horses, and traditions on the gallery of his historic home. A human, deep, and transformative experience.
Rest: Night in Belén, functioning as a resting point and transition before continuing the journey or heading back.
-
Day 4 / Exclusive Extension: The Puna and Lunar Landscapes
Note for the client: For those travelers with more time and a thirst for extreme adventure, this itinerary extends deep into the north: Campo Piedra Pómez, Carachi Pampa Volcano, El Peñón, and the Antofalla Salt Flat. A paradise of deserts, lagoons, and volcanoes that represents the pinnacle of exotic expedition in Argentina.
